About

I am a PhD student in Information Science at the University of Washington, advised by Profs. Katie Davis and Jin Ha Lee.

Broadly, my research explores creative learning and AI through music. I design, develop, and evaluate systems and experiences for music making and learning, from generative music AI tools to K-12 and college curricula. Using participatory methods, I work closely with young people, educators, and community partners including the UW Youth Advisory Board, KidsTeam UW, and foundry10. I hope to understand how young people develop musically as creative thinkers in an age of AI, and how we can support them in doing so, both in and beyond the classroom.

I received a BS in Computer Science and a BA in Music from the University of Michigan, where I worked with Profs. Julie Zhu and John Granzow. I was a visiting researcher at the Music Experience Design Lab (MusEDLab) at NYU Shanghai under Prof. Alex Ruthmann. I composed for Shanghai’s elementary and secondary music textbooks and contributed to China’s National Assessment of Education Quality with Prof. Danhong Yu at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Trained as a music producer, I am an independent developer of AU/VST audio plugins.
