The Teenage Erhu is a 3D-printed reimagining of Erhu #2524 in the University of Michigan’s Stearns Collection. It stands 60 cm tall, with a printed sound box, head and pegs on a wooden dowel neck, and a synthetic membrane in place of snakeskin. The parts print separately, so each can be changed or replaced on its own. I modeled it in Rhinoceros 3D for PAT 454: Digital Fabrication for Acoustics at Michigan; two smaller studies from the same course, a saxophone mouthpiece and a reed, are in the repository.
